His father was Shri Baijnath Pandey Ji and mother was Smt Kamla Pandey. He got his primary level education in Jainti Primary school. He was an intelligent student who had very keen interest in Sanskrit and our Sanskrit (culture). So, he moved to Banaras for higher education and acquired the degree of Shastri. He was Sanskrit scholar and had profound knowledge of Indian scripture. He was deeply influenced by national freedom movement and spread awareness about national movement through Bhagwat Katha. He was deeply pained by the atrocities made by British Raj especially like \u2018Collie Beggar\u2019 custom. His Bhagwat Kathas were very potent means of spreading awareness about national movement.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"margin-bottom: 12pt;font-size: 25px;text-align: justify;line-height: normal\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;font-weight: normal\">His ability to pool resources for establishment of SIC despite abject poverty in the area and resource crunch in the region was remarkable. He was an upright man who took pride in his culture and cultural heritage; hence he had a large following. He declined to accept government service as a teacher when he was asked to remove his Gandhi cap. After death of Dhoni Ji he took over the command of Salam Kranti and motivated masses to the noble cause. He motivated the general masses by his extraordinary oratory and dedication for national movement. He was instrumental in establishment of Sarvoday Inter College Jainti. His ability to pool resources for establishment of SIC despite abject poverty in the area and resource crunch in the region.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"margin-bottom: 12pt;font-size: 25px;text-align: justify;line-height: normal\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;font-weight: normal\">In 1928, he accompanied Lala Lajpat Rai in boycotting the Simon Commission. He plunged in freedom struggle and led a number of rallies and attended meetings. On 23.01.1930 he was arrested under Section 117 of IPC and awarded rigorous jail term of fifteen months. On 05.04.1941 he was arrested and charged under section 38 DIR act and awarded jail term of ten months and fine of Rs.100 and additional punishment of 6 months\u2019 jail term failing to deposit the fine. He took part in Quit India movement launched by Gandhiji and led agitations, mass movement, therefore arrested on 10.08.1942. He was awarded fifteen months rigorous jail term. Shastri ji was so popular in salam and Almora district that he acquired sobriquet (title) of Salam Gandhi.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"margin-bottom: 12pt;font-size: 25px;text-align: justify;line-height: normal\"><span style=\"font-size: 25px;font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt\">Shastri Ji was a renowned educationist and social reformer. He established Ram Singh Dhoni memorial in 1935 and opened Tara Library in his village Naya Sangroli in 1939. After Independence, he dedicated himself to social service like opening of schools and hospitals, road connectivity etc. Shastriji died on 5th April 1980 and his divine soul left for its heavenly
